After years of fields without form, form returns, no longer imposed on the surface. Worked mass and flat colour act on each other directly. In Concurrent, a grid of black rectangles crosses the gesture without resolving it. In Tolerances and Open State (ongoing series), flat colour sets how far the mass may go, tightening it in places and letting it breathe in others; Open State keeps its whole making inside the mass, from bare canvas to thick relief.
The grid is measured in pencil over a black gestural mass and masked so that it survives the gesture. Across the diptych, the triptych and the wide canvas it loosens from squares to alternating rectangles, until the gesture withdraws and the grid stands on bare canvas.
